Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay has said he has spoken to Kyle Shanahan following the news of his terrifying car crash that left him with multiple serious injuries.
On Saturday, it was reported that the San Francisco 49ers’ head coach had sustained serious injuries earlier this month after being involved in a car crash on July 14. Shanahan’s car collided with an SUV near his home in Northern California, with the crash so severe it left the 49ers playcaller with a broken nose, three broken ribs, a broken hand, and more than 40 stitches.
He also sustained a severe concussion, leading to his being taken to the hospital. The other individual involved in the crash was not hospitalized, with police saying there is no evidence to suggest either driver was impaired. Neither of them was cited for the collision.

The fallout from the crash also means Shanahan’s participation at the start of training camp will be limited, with the 49ers general manager telling reporters that while he may be on the practice field when drills start on Sunday, he will not be running practice or team meetings until he has recovered.
“Kyle is doing good,” said Lynch on Saturday. “He’s got some bumps and bruises. He did suffer a concussion in the accident, has some lingering effects from that concussion.”
Lynch also added that Shanahan will go through the same concussion protocol as players do, with doctors set to determine when the 49ers head coach will be able to return to full capacity.

The first NFL head coach to speak publicly about Shanahan’s crash was Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay. McVay and Shanahan are close friends, having worked together previously in Washington.
Following news of Shanahan’s involvement in the crash, McVay said he had spoken with his NFC West counterpart, adding that he was praying for his family.
“Most importantly, thank God he and the other person involved is okay,” McVay told reporters this weekend.

“Perspective is everything.We talk about that all the time as coaches and everybody goes through different things.

“I think the most important thing is that he’s on the road to recovery, his wife Mandy, and he’s got a beautiful family, and I think any time that something like that happens, it shakes you up a little bit.”
McVay added, “But most importantly, I have talked to him. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and I know he’s got an incredible perspective on it all.
“Kyle’s a stud. I have as much respect for him as anybody and he’s a friend of mine, and I love him and hope that he’s going to have a great recovery.”
