Lois Kinder, 44, from Lymm in Cheshire, England, was reportedly placed in an induced coma and eventually underwent an emergency liver transplant after becoming critically ill in July.

Kinder had been promoting and selling supplement products through TikTok as an affiliate. Her husband, Ollie, said she regularly received products from companies and had been taking ashwagandha-containing supplements for roughly 12 months.

The health crisis began when Kinder developed yellowing of her skin and eyes, a symptom associated with jaundice and possible liver problems.

Just days later, her 19-year-old daughter, Imogen, discovered her unconscious at home. Paramedics were able to revive her, but Imogen said her mother was confused and did not recognize her children.

Kinder was rushed to Warrington Hospital, where testing reportedly showed that her liver was failing. She was placed into a medically induced coma before being transferred to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, a specialist center capable of carrying out emergency liver transplants.

Doctors placed her on the urgent transplant waiting list. After several potential donor organs were deemed unsuitable, a liver finally became available on July 22.

The transplant, however, was followed by another terrifying medical emergency.

During the operation, Kinder reportedly suffered three cardiac arrests after a blood clot blocked a major artery leading to her lungs. Her family was repeatedly warned that she might not survive.

Ollie said doctors at one point believed she had suffered catastrophic brain damage and issued a do-not-resuscitate order. Despite the grim outlook, Kinder eventually regained consciousness after spending about a month in a coma.

Her recovery remains uncertain. She has reportedly recognized family members, spoken a few words and made small movements with her fingers and toes. However, her family says she suffered significant brain damage and continues to receive intensive neurological rehabilitation while remaining in critical care.

Ollie said doctors believe ashwagandha is currently the leading suspected cause of his wife’s liver failure, although the investigation has not been completed. The family has declined to identify the brand of supplement she used.

Ashwagandha is a popular herbal product marketed for several purposes, including stress relief, sleep support and overall wellness. It is available in numerous forms, including tablets, liquid products and gummies.https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fphoto%2F%3Ffbid%3D2555375588105603%26set%3Da.1469876626655510&show_text=true&width=500

Health experts have previously raised concerns about rare cases of liver injury associated with the herb. Professor Ashwin Dhanda, a liver medicine specialist at the University of Plymouth, said severe reactions can occur even though such cases are uncommon. He also noted concerns about differences in dosage and purity between supplement products and manufacturers.

Kinder had reportedly consumed a coffee and two gummies containing ashwagandha each day. According to Ollie, she believed the products helped her feel calmer and better.

Now, the family is focused on what comes next.

Ollie says doctors have warned that his wife could face long-term disabilities, although it is not yet known whether she will walk again or how much assistance she will eventually require.

The medical team treating Kinder reportedly plans to document her unusual case for medical journals, with the goal of helping other health professionals learn from the complicated treatment that followed her liver failure and transplant.https://www.facebook.com/plugins/post.php?h

Meanwhile, the family is raising money for a new home that can be modified to meet Kinder’s future needs. Their current rental property is being sold by the landlord, adding another challenge as they prepare for her recovery.

Her family has raised thousands of pounds through a GoFundMe campaign and is continuing to seek support.

For Ollie, the experience has transformed his family’s life in a matter of weeks. He says the family remains committed to helping Kinder recover and rebuilding their future together.
