Empathy between animals is normal and beautiful.

The lioness arrived at the sanctuary thin, weak, and [te.rrif.ied] after being rejected and attacked by her own pride.
Staff tried everything to help her recover, but she barely touched her food and spent most days pressed into the corner, watching every movement like she expected another animal to [hu.rt] her.

Then she noticed the bear across the glass.
At first, they only stared at each other.
But every day, the bear would walk over, sit quietly, and place his paw against the glass. After a while, the lioness started doing the same, pressing her paw back like she finally found something that didn’t [s.ca.re] her.

Staff were nervous about letting them meet, because a lioness and a bear bonding didn’t make sense to anyone.
But something between them was different.

When they were finally brought closer under careful supervision, the lioness didn’t run, growl, or hide. She stayed near him, calm for the first time in weeks, like she understood he wasn’t part of the pride that had broken her.

Soon after, she started eating again.
She gained weight, recovered her strength, and began following the bear whenever he was nearby.

Nobody knows exactly what passed between them through that glass.

He made her feel safe enough to live again.
